Biography – Donald E. Burkhart, Jr.
Don has worked in the safety profession for 48 years. His experience includes the insurance industry, product safety engineering and mining. He worked in the United States’ nuclear weapons industry including being the Industrial Safety Manager for the Rocky Flats Nuclear Weapons Plant where he managed a staff of 36. The majority of his work experience has been in the oil and gas industry with Amoco and BP in Wyoming where he spent 25 years. In 2015 he retired from BP. He remains active in the safety profession consulting in the oil and gas industry.
His current and past professional accomplishments include: Certified Safety Professional. Wyoming Safety Professional of the Year. Petroleum Association of Wyoming (Safety Committee Chairman). Professional Member of the American Society of Safety Engineers. ASSE Wyoming Chapter President. Member National Fire Protection Association Mining Standards Committees. Member of the System Safety Society. Wyoming-Montana Safety Council (Board President). Wyoming State Fire Marshall Advisory Committee. Trinidad Colorado State College Safety Studies Department Advisory Board. Assisted in the formation of WOGISA. Wyoming State Certified Mine Foreman. He has lectured at the national level.
Don Burkhart was also elected to the Wyoming House of Representatives and is in his fourth term. He is currently the Speaker Pro Tempore (third ranking member) of the Wyoming House.
