CHEYENNE – The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services (DWS) and its partners are accepting nominations for workplace safety and workforce development awards. The awards will be presented at the 2019 Wyoming Safety and Workforce Summit on July 9 at the Little America Hotel and Resort in Cheyenne. “The Safety and Workforce Summit Awards are a chance to recognize those businesses in Wyoming who demonstrate a strong commitment to their employees and their communities,” said Robin Sessions Cooley, Director of the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services. “Our businesses are the backbone of our economy, and we want to recognize those who go above and beyond,” Director Cooley said. Pizza Carrello in Gillette won the award for Small Employer of the Year at the 2018 summit, and owners Ariane Jimison and Rachel Kalenberg said the recognition was important to them as small business owners. “We are a little restaurant hoping to make a big impact,” Jimison said. “We do things differently. Our focus is not how much money we can make, our focus is serving our employees and our community in a way that is good for everyone.” The Wyoming Workforce Development Council will present four workforce development awards this year: Veteran Employer of the Year, Youth Employer of the Year, Large Employer of the Year and Small Employer of the Year. These awards will honor Wyoming employers for their commitment to developing Wyoming’s workforce. In addition, DWS will present four safety awards to Wyoming employers demonstrating a strong safety culture and excellence in safety and health programs and the State Mine Awards. Wyoming Oil and Gas Safety Alliance will present the Stop Work Authority Award. The nomination period closes May 20.
